Kathakali is one of the oldest forms of theatre which originates in the South West of India.
Kathaki itself means 'story-play' and is highly elaborate in both its style, costume and make up. There is specific detail to hand gestures, known as 'mudras' as well as body movement which requires the performers to be extremely disciplined.
Accompanied by music, stories of a religious theme are presented for hours on end, accumulating at dawn when good finally conquers evil.
